Wooden Sign Making

Wooden Sign Making

Wooden sign making can be both a fun hobby and a rewarding side business. It just takes some basic knowledge to transform blocks of wood into beautiful and functional artwork. Wooden signs are a great way to decorate a child's room, and they also make lovely address plaques or business signs. The best wood for making signs is dry lumber. This should be seasoned, unwarped and unsplit.

Different kinds of wood will provide different looks depending on their grain and porous nature. Pine, fir and spruce are good for outdoor signs that will withstand the weather, whereas cherry, walnut, as and maple are great choices for indoor signs. The type of glue you use is important. If you need to put background pieces together you will need a strong wood glue that is workable and dries in the color of the wood.
