Safety Signs To Come Up At Public Boat Launches In St. Bernard Parish After Boating Deaths

The St. Bernard Parish Sheriff's Office with the help of state Wildlife and Fisheries will begin putting up safety signs at boat launches all over the St Bernard Parish waters, after a series of boat accidents and deaths in the past couple of months. The safety signs are to remind boaters of basic laws involving boating safety. St. Bernard Chief Deputy James Pohlmann said that the safety signs were aimed at focussing boaters' attention on remembering safety rules before setting out. Safety rules such as life jackets compulsory for children under 16, and basic boating navigation rules such as staying on the right, slowing down while turning etc are highlighted on these safety signs. The safety signs have been set up in the wake of four deaths in the St Bernard Parish waters this year.
