The St. Bernard Parish Sheriff's Office with the help of state Wildlife and Fisheries will begin putting up safety signs at boat launches all over the St Bernard Parish waters, after a series of boat accidents and deaths in the past couple of months. The safety signs are to remind boaters of basic laws involving boating safety. St. Bernard Chief Deputy James Pohlmann said that the safety signs were aimed at focussing boaters' attention on remembering safety rules before setting out. Safety rules such as life jackets compulsory for children under 16, and basic boating navigation rules such as staying on the right, slowing down while turning etc are highlighted on these safety signs. The safety signs have been set up in the wake of four deaths in the St Bernard Parish waters this year.

The Westwood Planning Board members are seeking regulation over the use of neon signs and hanging signs in the business district downtown. The members of the Board have decided to limit the number of interior neon signs that the stores have visible from the front of the store.
The earlier discussion was to allow any number of neon signs provided they were less than three square feet in size, only in three or less colors, and at least 10 feet away from any exterior window. Then the decision was reversed and now the board has decided to limit the number of neon signs to three after concerns over the fact that some large businesses might take advantage of the number of signs.
Even the Mayor John Birkner Jr. has advised that he would be in favor of regulating the number of neon signs since they did reduce the aesthetic appeal of the downtown business district. The board is also working on semantics of the regulation since the actual "neon" lights are out dated and mostly businesses use LED lighting and other digital materials.

Former Cubs GM Jim Hendry is the latest in the list of men who can list the pitfalls of fame, especially now that the honorary "Jim Hendry Way" street signs conferred to him are being removed.
Now that Chicago Cubs have fired him, his hometown Park Ridge is wasting no time in giving the "honorary" street signs the boot as well. The pair of street signs is placed along the Northwest Highway at Touhy.
Reportedly, put up by the Former Governor Rob Blagojevich, the current mayor alleges that these "street signs were put up without the city hall's permission". "We never wanted them up in the first place," says Mayor David Schmidt. "Now that Blagojevich is gone and so is Hendry — at least from the Cubs — it seems like this would be a good time to ask for the street signs to be removed."
